A lightweight bout between Minnesota's Nik Lentz and perennial UFC lightweight contender Tyson Griffin is in the works for November's UFC 123 event in Detroit, according to a report from MMAWeekly.com.
Lentz has yet to be defeated in the Octagon, going 3-0-1 in four appearances in the UFC. But Lentz received a heap of criticism for his most recent fight, where he eked out a unanimous decision victory over Andre Winner despite very little taking place in the fight.
Griffin will be attempting to bounce back from the first consecutive losses of his career. After suffering a split decision against Evan Dunham in June, Griffin was then knocked out for the first time in his career by Takanori Gomi in August.
UFC 123 airs live on pay-per-view from The Palace of Auburn Hills just outside of Detroit, Mich. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Lyoto Machida.

Penick's Analysis: Well, with Tyson Griffin involved in the fight it might end up on the pay-per-view card or the Spike TV Prelims special if they have one, but Lentz in the fight doesn't lead to that belief. Lentz' fight with Andre Winner was simply one of the worst MMA fights on a televised event in a long time. This should hopefully be a much better matchup, as the two wrestlers could force each other to battle it out on the feet, but at the same time there's no clear reason to believe that will be the case.
