TV and movie star Kevin James, an unabashed MMA fan in his own right, is set to star in a film set in the world of mixed martial arts.
Sony announced the project this week, which is expected to begin filming early next year.
In the movie, James will play a physics teacher at a school facing budget cuts. His character will enter MMA to attempt to make money for the school's music program and to help save his best friend's job at the school. Ultimately, he makes his way to the UFC.
James is producing the film through his Hey Eddie company, and writer Allan Loeb is in negotiations to write the script.
Penick's Analysis: Pretty clearly a comedy, it will be interesting to see if the UFC officially gets involved here. James has been a visible fan of the UFC and has been shown cageside at many events, and this would be a mainstream movie with James in the starring role, but I'm just not sure what to think of it at this point.
