STRIKEFORCE NEWS: Welterweight prospects Tyron Woodley and Andre Galvao to meet at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II in October

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Two welterweight prospects are slated to face off on Strikeforce's October 9 event on Showtime, as Andre Galvao and Tyron Woodley will meet on the card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Galvao posted about the fight this morning on Twitter, and multiple reports have stated the bout is in the works for the event.

Both fighters have six fights under their belt, and multiple fights under the Strikeforce banner. This would be the first non-Challengers card for Galvao, and the second for Woodley.

Woodley's last three fights have come under the Challengers banner. His most recent victory came by split decision after five straight submission wins to start his career.

Galvao defeated Jorge Patino in his last fight on the preliminary card of Strikeforce: Houston. His only career loss was by split decision to Jason High in the DREAM Welterweight Grand Prix.

Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II is headlined by a Welterweight Championship bout between Nick Diaz and K.J. Noons, and also features a Women's 135 lb. Championship bout between Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen.

Penick's Analysis: This is a great fight between two young prospects with a ton of talent. Woodley has been a very exciting fighter for Strikeforce thus far, and although his last fight was a tough test and a debatable decision, he still got through it and will have another difficult opponent in Galvao here. This is a good addition for this card.
