UFC NEWS: Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim on tap for UFC 125 on New Year's Day

Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz will be in action this Saturday night on Showtime, but his brother Nate now has his next fight set, as MMAJunkie.com confirmed a report from Korean website mfight.co.kr that the younger Diaz brother will meet Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 125 on New Year's Day in Las Vegas.

Diaz has found a new home in the welterweight division, winning two straight fights in impressive fashion. After finishing Rory Markham by TKO, he then choked out Marcus Davis at UFC 118 in August.

Kim has continued to win fights in the UFC, picking up decision wins over T.J. Grant and Amir Sadollah following his fight with Karo Parisyan last January. Initially a split decision win for Parisyan, the bout was overturned to a "no contest" when he tested positive for painkillers after the event. Kim's record remains unblemished, and he now has four wins in five fights in the UFC.

UFC 125 will feature a Lightweight Championship fight between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, as well as a heavyweight clash between Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson.

Penick's Analysis: This is an excellent matchup in the welterweight division. Kim has been picking up wins, and looked very good against Amir Sadollah in May, but Diaz is a different type of opponent and a different level opponent than any he's faced in the UFC. Diaz has looked like a different fighter in the welterweight division thus far, and has looked better at 170 lb. in these last two fights than he did in the 1-3 stretch he had at lightweight. This fight should answer some questions about both fighters, and will raise the winner's status in the division. Definitely a good addition, here.
