Another Strikeforce: Challengers event is now set, as the organization announced on Monday that Strikeforce: Challengers 12 will take place from the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss. on November 19.
The event will feature a lightweight bout between Justin Wilcox and Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, as well as the second professional fight for Ryan Couture.
Wilcox has gone 3-1 inside the Strikeforce cage, and is 9-3 overall in his career. He lost his debut in the organization back in 2008, but returned after a win elsewhere to defeat David Douglas, Daisuke Nakamura and Shamar Bailey in succession.
Ribeiro made his Strikeforce debut earlier this year on the preliminary card of Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery in St. Louis. He lost a disputed split decision to Lyle "Fancy Pants" Beerbohm. He has dropped three of four fights, with losses to Shinya Aoki and Gesias Calvancante. The event will air live on Showtime.
Penick's Analysis: Wilcox has a really good opportunity against Ribeiro here. Although he's lost three of four, a lot of people had him winning the fight against Beerbohm, and he's fought some really good competition during his 24 fight career. Wilcox is riding a good streak right now, and if he can pick up a win over Ribeiro it will be a big step up the ladder for him. Couture looked impressive in his pro debut earlier this year, and because of his name he'll continue to garner interest and spots on these televised events. As long as he produces results he'll earn those spots on his own merits soon enough.
