The last time former WEC Featherweight champion Mike Brown walked out of a WEC cage was after he suffered a surprising first round knockout loss to Manvel Gamburyan. MMA Junkie is reporting that Brown's next foray into a WEC cage will be against Cole Province on September 30 at WEC 51.
Brown (23-6, 5-2 WEC) is a former WEC Featherweight champion, having shocked Urijah Faber for the title in only his second WEC appearance. After successfully defending his title against Leonard Garcia and Faber, Brown dropped the title to now WEC champion Jose Aldo.
Province (6-1, 1-0 WEC) is making his return to the WEC after taking one fight outside the organization. After defeating Diego Nunes at WEC 37, he defeated Fredson Paixao at WEC 42, but failed failed a post-fight drug test and the Paixao victory was changed to a no contest. Al six of Province's victories have come by submission.
WEC 51 originates from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado, and airs live on Versus. The event features a WEC Featherweight championship between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Manvel Gamburyan, as well as the long anticipated rematch between Lightweights Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone.
