UFC NEWS: UFC 121 bringing Prelims Live special to Spike with McGee vs. Jensen, Cote vs. Lawlor

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Spike TV today confirmed that the October UFC 121 event will feature an hour long Spike TV Prelims Live special, and the two fights set for the special have been revealed.

Ultimate Fighter season 11 winner Court McGee will take on Ryan Jensen, and former UFC Middleweight Title challenger Patrick Cote will meet "Filthy" Tom Lawlor on the hour long broadcast.

The event takes place October 23 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and the event is headlined by a UFC Heavyweight Championship bout between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez.

Jensen heads into his fight with McGee looking to build momentum after his UFC 114 submission victory over Jesse Forbes. He had gone 1-2 in his previous three fights heading into that one.

McGee won the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter in June, submitting Kris McCray to take the title and the "six figure contract." He has lost just once in his career, to longtime veteran Jeremy Horn in 2007.

Cote returned from a year and a half injury layoff in May, though he was defeated by Alan Belcher at UFC 113 to give him two straight losses. Lawlor was defeated on that same card for his second straight loss as well, as he was submitted by Joe Doerksen. Both fighters will be in desperate need of a win on this card.

Penick's Analysis: With how stacked this card is, a Spike TV special for it was a foregone conclusion. There are just a ton of really good fights, and this allows for fans to see even more of them guaranteed, and leaves a good possibility that a couple of the unaired preliminary card fights will make the broadcast if time is available. Both of these fights should be entertaining, and it should make for a good lead in to the pay-per-view broadcast.
