Heavyweight Todd Duffee was released from the UFC at the outset of the fall due to a combination of a loss to Mike Russow in May, pulling out of a fight at UFC 121 and reported attitude issues, but he's now ready to return to action.

Duffee will meet Ultimate Fighter 10 alum Abe Wagner at a Titan Fighting Championships in Kansas City on January 28. The event will air live on HDNet.

"MMA fans around the world know that HDNet is everyone's home for MMA," said Titan Fighting Championships President and CEO Joe Kelly in a press release for the bout. "We're excited that the Titan Fighting Championships will look to build a home of its own with HDNet and HDNet Fights starting on Jan. 28. Titan has worked with some of the best up and coming talent over the years and we are excited to continue that tradition with HDNet.

"Being able to feature Todd Duffee on our first televised event of 2011 is very exciting but I think fight fans will be surprised with some of the other names that have committed to this event. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be announcing some very exciting matchups."

The event takes place at Kansas City's historic Memorial Hall, and tickets went on sale this morning.

Penick's Analysis: After turning down a last minute bout against Antonio Silva and turning down a reported contract with Bellator as well, Duffee may be looking to make his way back to the UFC by fighting in an event such as this. If he can pick up a win on a televised event but not be held under a restrictive contract as he may have faced in Strikeforce or Bellator, it will make it easier to get back into the UFC.
